Death of Augustus - Daniel
This is one of Daniel’s first experiences using graphite pencil for shading purposes as well as his first anatomy study of the human skeletal system.
He absolutely did a fantastic job. He based the composition on a sculpture of Augustus called “Augusto di Prima Porta” dated at around AD 14 — AD 37. This is likely a copy of an original made of bronze. This copy was found in the Villa of Agustus’ wife in the year 1863.
